Shipwrecked survivors of a galaxy-spanning empire (ruined when the core exploded) settle upon a wetlands world occupied by humans and other species. They then poke through ruins of their Ancient ancestors as they strive to regain space and then, starflight.
I always laugh when I hear professionals rant about amateurs. Yes they devalue you work, yes they set a bad precedent..
But in the end if other people are willing to do it for free (or even pay to do it), you can't expect to be paid for it and should count yourself either very lucky, very skilled or both if you can.
The term media whore is appropriate. That is a profession that is also undervalued by all those giving away for free what they expect to be paid for ;)
Harlan Ellison puts my teeth on edge. But then again maybe that's his shtick. I don't know the guy. Never even saw him at a con in my neck of the woods, but the crap he pulled with James Cameron is just sad. As a matter of fact that's my opinion of Harlan Ellison, a sad little neurotic man poured into the skin of a decent writer.
I used to get a kick out of Harlan's rants on the old SciFi Buzz

ReplyDeleteSheesh, just as I am trying to negotiate my blog with someone to use in another form of media... I need to jot down this wisdom.
