Order and Chaos: Asimov and Borges-

While I've not read much, if anything, by these two, I found this article last night, and I thought it very interesting. The article touches upon ideas in both men's works that have resonance with the Urutsk meta-setting, and I thought to share it with the blog's readers.

Let me know what you think of the article, Asimov, or Borges in general.

Best,

  1. Is there a link hidden somewhere in this post?

Borges is simply awesome. Weird/fantastic fiction, often set in the real world, with very interesting philosophical jumping off points. You must read "The aleph," "Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius," "The library of Babel," and "The circular ruins," and The book of imaginary beings.

Asimov ... I read a lot of his nonfiction. His "Book of facts" from the mid-1980s warped my youth. Can't speak to his fiction, not a hard sci-fi guy.

  2. Ahem, thanks, MikeM. :D

I have researched Borges a bit prior to this article, but I'll have to set aside time to read his work. Thank you for the suggested list. :D

    Yeah...
--While my friends were reading Asimov, Anderson, and Clarke, I was off reading Poe, Lovecraft and Ellison, and never got around to reading the 'seminal' SciFi stuff. I think I have read one Asimov short in Jr. High -- something about a guy in a nuclear proof bunker, but the undoing was the air system. Didn't make a big impact at the time, but I'm willing to give him a try now.

    Thanks for commenting. :)
