Both in Petershagen, then, West Germany when I was a child 5/6, and later in my very strange elementary school in Miami, Florida, we danced the Maypole. My Protestant Irish PE teacher, Eveline Wood, was impressed that I knew it and was glad to see me gaily skipping along in the weave.
